Our school values of Respect, Endeavour & Reponsibility are both explicitly taught and woven throughout our entire curriculum.
Our school values are at the core of what makes us who we are as part of the Woodside Team. Our values are both explicitly taught and embedded throughout our entire curriculum. Our values and how we demonstrate them are listed below:
Treat yourself and others with respect. Be honest in your words and actions.
Make every effort your best effort. Be an active participant in your community.
Be accountable for your own actions.
Take an active role in caring for others.
Give everybody a fair go.
Each week the entire school assembles for a half hour session called School Wide Positive Behaviours. Here behaviours and values are explicitly taught.
The success of this program is quantified through data from the Attitudes to School Survey. Each year children in Year Five and Six are surveyed by the Department of Education. Over the past four years data places Woodside in the top 20% of schools across Victoria. This data can be seen in our Annual Report to the School Community.
Student voice is highly valued at Woodside Primary. Each class nominates two students and along with term leaders form the Student Representative Council (SRC). This group meet each fortnight to discuss any issues and concerns.
At Woodside we believe all senior students have the capacity to be leaders and benefit from the opportunity to be one. All Year Five and Six students are invited to nominate for School Captain or Vice Captain. Each child is nominated for one term. House Captains and Vice Captains take a formal role, including meeting and greeting visitors, leading assemblies and school events where appropriate.
Students in Year Five and Six attend an overnight leadership camp where skills to assist them in becoming leaders are fostered.
Literacy and Numeracy support is available for those children who require individualised intervention either over several weeks or for those with special needs over their entire schooling.
Fortnightly speech therapy is also available on site for children requiring specialised assistance.
