Special Programmes

English  With small class sizes and extra sessions  in our targeted charter priority area of writing, English is a considerable focus at Woodside.  A well stocked library and excellent reading resources ensure that children at all levels are catered for.

Maths  Widespread use of powerful diagnostic tools such as the computer based 'Numeracy Interview' allow teaching to be focused at individual points of growth.    Quality core teaching coupled with open ended tasks and an extension group ensure that Woodside Students continue to achieve excellent results in mathematics.

Science & Technology  is given strong weighting at Woodside.  Our programme is designed to give children a wide range of experiences.  Students enjoyed a unit of work on carpentry last year and moved into boat construction this year.  Woodside Students also have the opportunity to be involved in a innovative mechanical engineering program called "Grease Monkeys".  Our Science Nights, (this year an astrology night) are always very popular.

Learning Technologies  learning technologies are integrated across the curriculum and are a powerful teaching and learning tool.  Woodside Primary School has outstanding Computer/Student ratios which ensures that our students are talented learning technology users.

Language Other Than English  Woodside Primary School take a leading role in the area of LOTE and students have the valuable opportunity to learn Indonesian.

Health & Physical Education is taken by a specialist teacher and the benefits of our extensive programme are demonstrated by the achievements of our talented students who consistently excel at sporting events.

Study Of Society & Environment  Making extensive use of the latest educational practices and enquiry based learning, Woodside Primary School students have a well rounded knowledge of our Society and the Environment.

The Arts  The Arts are certainly appreciated at Woodside with events such as the annual 'Festival of the Arts' (the only one of it's kind in the district) being a testimony to this.  Our strong performances in the Yarram Eisteddfod and Yarram Show are a reflection of the Woodside culture of excellence in the Arts.

Woodside Primary is a Sun Smart School.  This means in terms One and Four students wear Sun Smart clothing and we have shaded play areas.  It is a school policy that students wear sunhats in terms one and four.

Woodside Primary has also achieved Asthma Friendly accreditation.  This means that we try and reduce known asthma triggers and have effective asthma management plans in place for all students.  Just another way that we care for our students at Woodside.
